The Sandcastle Inn is a modestly priced motel in a convenient location on Tybee Island, offering easy access to the beach, shops, and restaurants. However, recent reviews highlight inconsistent cleanliness, potential pest issues, and occasional maintenance problems, alongside positive experiences with friendly staff and a comfortable stay for some guests.
Nice little Motel with a great staff! Room was clean and tidy. Location was great with the strip, the pier, and the beach all close by. Zero issues and would book again without hesitation
We were looking last minute to stay one night in Tybee Island. If you know Tybee then you know you will pay to park EVERYWHERE on the Island. So we were specifically looking for a place that was within walking distance of the beach and restaurants. SandCastle Inn was it! At first I was hesitant because of the reviews. People were complaining about it being run down, the pool being dirty, and even one review mentioned there being bugs. Other hotels in the same vicinity wanted $300 plus for a single night. Sandcastle Inn was much more reasonably priced so for just one night we decided to take a chance. When we arrived we didn’t see the “run down” motel people were talking about. The outside is more than decent and in a very convenient location. The pool was not dirty and our kids had a blast in it. And the rooms, they were clean and definitely NO bugs! Was it fancy? No. Were the beds luxurious? No. But it was clean, safe, well kept, and we were able to walk to everything. Lastly when we went to leave we unfortunately locked our keys in the car… was definitely a crummy way to end our short stay. Instead of being pushy the office staff Tammy & Melinda were very understanding and accommodating while we worked on getting a locksmith out there to get us back into our car. They were patient, kind and made sure we weren’t stuck in the heat with our children. We will definitely stay at Sandcastle Inn again in the future! Don’t believe every Google review you read because some people only write them because they enjoy complaining.
Bad experience overall. The rooms were generally unclean and there was black looking mold in both of the rooms they gave us - I had two small children with me and we were forced to sleep there for a night since it was so late in the night and we weren't sure if we could get into another hotel so late. The receptionist and manager were very nice and helped us cancel the rest of the booked nights, but the rooms need to be clean and safe, which I didn't feel they were.
Literal walking distance to the public beach access. Park your car at the hotel for your trip. You are walking distance from nearly everything fun on that end of the island. This room was clean and modest. Very clean which was a great surprise. They are so hospitable that they allowed late check ins so we could come at our own pace without being stressed out. Ice machine is not the greatest but I'm sure they can take care of that. There is a nice pool outside. Clean safe neighborhood easy walking distance to the breakfast club make sure to go super early or stand in line outside. Great room. Fantastic price. Best bang for your buck
The Sandcastle Inn was a great spot- easy to work with, close to the beach, and friendly staff. Close to south beach restaurants and shops, we felt safe and got a good night’s resf. I would stay here again!
The hotel itself seems a little ran down on the outside but we didn’t let that make our decision. when we walked in we were like it’s so nice and cute!! Until midnight rolled around and i got up to use the bathroom (we were only stopping through because i had surgery in NC and was heading back home to FL) when i got up in the middle of the night i saw numerous German roaches crawling around so the place has bugs. FYI be cautious because once you get the they are HARD to get rid of! The last at the reception was nice and helpful and again room was nice until that. Couldn’t back to sleep so we ended up up leaving around 330am and doing the rest of our driving home to FL. We couldn’t go back to sleep worried bugs would be on us or in our stuff. Money wasted so I’m not happy
This hotel has withstood the test of time and seen a lot of great family events, I'm sure. Dawn, the owner, the porter and another front desk lady were all very helpful and attentive during our 1 night stay that gradually turned into 5 nights for 2 rooms. My only complaint is that as a Fort Myers Beach, Florida Resident; I understand oceanianic wear n tear but the appearance of sanitized floors and sinks is most ideal to this guest and her family. Perhaps a bleach soak on the grout in the bathroom crevices and a new sink basin would be ideal for future guests. We were so thrilled to have our Weather Bus RV parked right outside our front door for 5 days during off season it made it that much more easier to stay. Overall....yes we would stay again. Staff was great! Property IS very CLEAN! No debris or liter. Other rooms may be better.
I think the price for 2 nights for a total of over $500 was a little outrageous. Nothing too special about the motel. Messed up our room when we first arrived, gave us a room that was already occupied so we had to go back to the office and find someone to change the room around...people were friendly and were sorry. Parking for us was good. Still an outdated motel, our door to the room sort of didn't fit correctly so we had to slam it shut.
Room was dirty, towels had stains, broken appliances, the sheets smelled odd, when I entered I saw a roach. The next day the cleaning man came and he didn’t clean, he only swept and left (he didn’t know English so I assume he didn’t understand what were saying). I also got trapped in the bathroom (someone else mentioned this). My husband is strong and he couldn’t even get us out. We had to keep tugging until it opened. All in all don’t think I’ll be back. I only came because my MIL wanted to.
The service was exceptional and very hospitable. The parking is a nightmare. The rooms are okay. Our biggest grievance was there was absolutely no where to hang wet towels and swimsuits. You're at the beach and absolutely need several hooks or bars to hang wet laundry. I highly recommend the clean and quaint laundromat on tybee if you stay here. Otherwise, you get what you pay for I guess!
