The DeSoto Beach Hotel - Oceanfront receives mixed reviews, with many praising its prime beachfront location and friendly staff. However, recent feedback highlights concerns about room cleanliness, particularly regarding mold and outdated features, as well as issues with amenities like the non-functioning TV. Despite these shortcomings, some guests appreciate the spacious rooms and convenient access to the beach.
It was 12 years ago. 3 days. Beginning of August. If you are not looking for a non stop party. Walking up and down the strip in your boxers is no longer something you look forward to. If you want an incredible empty beach. Except for you and yours this Is the only place to go from Atlantic Beach in down through Hilton Head. None of the beaches save Kill Devils Hills compare. For peace and a wonderful time with your family without having to worry about your kids or anything other than enjoying sunsets in solitude. This is the best place within 6 hours on the road you can visit. Drive through Savannah across a bridge for around 7 miles to your left first place looks kinda rowdy. But it's not. Biker bar by appearances. New York style Pizza in reality. The pizza were bigger than my front door. With just a bit of exaggeration. Then you go further into town and you realize you crossed over to a private community the serves all visitors as if they were locals. Ice cream place that the kids loved. If it can please 2, 6 & 10 year olds the same as mom and Dad you know it's the best. would go every year if I was able. Forget you ever heard of Myrtle Beach. It's a zoo. The coastline is beautiful you see dolphins every morning. Can't speak highly enough about Tybee Island.
Absolutely love this place. Staff is kind and professional! The hotel is cute, clean, great little breakfast items, loved the coffee. A much stronger brew than most hotels which I appreciate. Great juice items, a variety of pastries, cereal bowls, milk, bagles. Little microwaveable sausage biscuits and Belgian waffles for microwave. We stayed in the king room in room 109 and 110- great view of the pool and ocean!! Cute little gift shop inside and a drink and snack vending machine, ice machine. Very close to everything and perfect walk to the ocean. Cute outside sitting area and extra lounge chairs in cute little start of walk to ocean. Pool was clean and nice. Would highly recommend and we can not wait to come back !!!.
This was my first trip with my oldest son, who had never seen the beach. Tasha, who works there made reservations so easy and Travis, Kirby and Thomas were beyond amazing. Such great staff and great location! We never slept better than in those beds and it was so cool and dark and quiet! so many good places to eat! Take your bug spray for the black flies and you’ll be having the best time! Mr. Cameron Kelpsa Peachtree corners Georges
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly First, the good: the staff was very accommodating when I mistakenly booked the wrong day; they changed my reservation without any issues and the heated pool is clean and definitely a plus. The view of th oecean was awesome but you pay for that for sure. Now for the bad: at a price point for $544.00 for one night, the room resembled a motel from a horror movie in a last chance town. i.e. untreated rust on door and balcony, torn sofa bed, wall ac unit with random cord sticking out, (see the photos below). And the ugly: the breakfast consisted of sad fruit and bagels, and there was a lack of equipment for disabled individuals in the bathrooms, such as safety handrails. I'm originally from Savannah but currently reside in Atlanta. Having traveled the coast and stayed at various hotels in this price rsnge , I believe the DeSoto experience i had was not worth the money spent nd the hotel itself is in need of a major overhaul.
Our biggest complaint is that the TV in the room didn't work. It wasn't just our room, it was the whole property. The first day we arrived and it wasn't working, the staff said they were working on getting it fixed. The next day we saw a Xfinity truck so we had hope it was going to be fixed, but no. Xfinity said nothing was wrong on their end. The message on the screen said the device was not activated. We stayed FIVE nights and it was not fixed when we left. Of course we weren't there to watch TV, but at night we want to turn on the TV to relax. This wouldn't have been an issue if the TV's in the room were smart TV's so we could login to our streaming apps. But they were not. We ended up using our laptop to have something on at night but this was really disappointing. My other complaints are that the pool is VERY SMALL and I don't believe there is any chlorine in the pool. I'm also not sure that it was a heated pool, although they would put a cover over it that heats the water. We stayed in the hotel rooms and the bathroom is soooo small. There was hardly any water pressure from the shower and there wasn't much variation in water temperature. We were supposed to get clean sheets after 3 days but I don't think that happened. The property is just old and outdated. The beach is amazing and close! So if that's all you care about, maybe it's perfect! There are some restaurants close but you mostly have to drive to them. The staff person that I talked to was very nice.
Room was cold and not stocked. No dish towel or paper towels to do dishes that they require you do before leaving. Service slow desk clerk was nice but extremely slow Location is good on the beach but the parking is horrendous. My husband struggled and he has driven professionally I would never have been able to park in the space provided I would not stay here again
**Was hospitalized from mold from DeSota Beach hotel** I randomly traveled here to just get away and had to end my stay early because I couldnt sleep due to a heavy sensation in my chest from mold being present in the room. The I threw up a few times and was coughing up blood. I noticed that the shower had signs of mold and the room had mold everywhere. The lady at the front desk was super nice and friendly, however my stay wasn't nice. The icemaker had black mold in it as well this is scary because mold is a slow-killer. I took pix and showed management they are dragging their feet about a refund today is Sunday this happened on a Thursday. They have shown No Remorse about the alarm at this room has done otherwise they would have immediately contact me so I will be reporting them.
Over all nice stay. Quiet and clean. Gave 3 stars because I booked for the heated pool and it was only slightly warm. Also continental was bare minimum. I assumed it would have been better for the prices of the rooms.
It's about 20-25 minutes outside of Savannah Waterfront. It was in the beach and the day we for there we did get to walk on the beach. It was too cold after the first day. We were not impressed with the breakfast items. We are out. The rooms were clean and we did have a seaview small.
Wonderful guest services, room has welcoming ambiance, firm and comfortable bed, perfect view of the beach and water from our balcony room, continental breakfast had many options. Plenty of food options close by. Would definitely recommend to stay here!
