The Homewood Suites by Hilton Savannah Historic Dist/Riverfront receives mixed reviews, with consistent praise for its location and rooftop amenities but significant concerns regarding staff attitude, cleanliness, and operational issues such as dripping ceilings, mold, and inconsistent service. Recent reviews highlight issues with parking costs and a lack of attention to detail in room upkeep.
Rude and unwelcome feeling from staff from start. The front desk manager was not helpful at all when i spoke with her about my concerns and made me feel like I should be thanking her for allowing me to stay. She should be replaced. When I expressed my concerns not even one apology was given. The lobby and restrooms were dirty. There was a pungent smell from the lobby restroom that could be smelt before I even opened the door. There was feces on the toilet and urine in the floor. The coffee bar was dirty seemed like a health hazard. I saw a child licking the coffee stirrers and putting them back. I think the staff had an allergy to smiling not one was seen by any of them. I had a mold smell in my room which caused a sinus condition to flare up and was only relieved by leaving the hotel. The ceiling was dripping. Dogs were seen running and barking in the halls with noone around. The bartender at the rooftop bar was rude and was more interested in helping one particular guest instead of offering the same service to others. The food was way over priced even for a Hilton. The room was less than satisfactory and the beds were uncomfortable. There was musty smell in my room like there was an ongoing issue with mold. I felt like I was staying in a low budget inn instead of a Hilton. I saw a roach in the bathroom. Did I mention the mold smell? Valet parking was the only pleasant experience, but that was only because I was leaving. As a diamond reward member I would not recommend this place to anyone. The whole visit was a bust. This is not the kind of service I would expect from a Hilton.
We spent a night at the hotel. We could not have been more pleased. Rooms are completely updated. Bedding is very nice, drapery and decor are beautiful. Lamps on both sides of bed have all the ports you need to charge. Rooms were bigger than I expected, bc this is really a boutique hotel in a historic building on the Savannah River. Rooftop bar has live music and happy hour prices. Pool up there was like bath water - perfect for a cool day!! Had fire pits too. You can walk out the back on lower River St level. Which is super close to shops, bars, restaurants, and the trolley bus stop. If you exit in another area you come out on Bay Street so that’s super cool. It is on the east end of historic so buses come around the corner right there. Bay Street is front of hotel, River street is behind it and runs along the river. Covered parking was $40 if you do it at the ramp just right next to it. We used valet and it was $50. Their open lot is not available any longer. Bellhop said that lot (between hotel and river) is gonna be two hotels. We walked at night and felt safe although Bay Street at dark is better street to take than River We felt. We took both. Breakfast was good, although the area is too small for number of folks staying. They have a concierge to help with tours etc. Our departure was interrupted by an unexpected fire alarm with fire trucks and all. All in all it was beautiful and really delivered. We’d love to come back.
The location was perfect for me during my February 9-13 stay, as it was walkable (important) and not far from the places I needed to be. Courtesy and professional staff all around the property (front desk associates, dining, engineer/maintenance, and valet). The only complaint, which is nothing the hotel management can fix, is the wretched smell of the Paper Mill (has been shoutdown; however, the STRONG smell still lingers). I will definitely stay here again when in Savannah, GA (Port City) for work or pleasure.
Excellent breakfast with rotating options of bacon, sausage, and pulled pork with the daily waffles, eggs, potatoes, cereal, etc. As with many hotel breakfasts, the food could have been hotter. We booked this hotel for the number of beds and kitchenette. The kitchen was missing the can opener and the cork screw. The front desk briefly loaned a cork screw but did next to nothing to find a can opener. The location is close to the visitor center, restaurants, and bus stops. Everything is with walking distance or a short free bus ride away. Overall, would stay again.
Below is an email I sent to the general manager of the hotel. I asked to see a manager 4 times prior to writing this. I ended up calling Hilton corporate and getting a refund for this night. I still have not heard back from the hotel or even an apology from the hotel themselves. While the hotel itself is beautiful and the riverfront views are excellent, my overall experience during my stay in room 712 was significantly disrupted by excessive and unreasonable noise coming from the rooftop bar last night. The noise level was entirely inappropriate for a hotel environment, particularly one at this price point. A DJ repeatedly shouting into a microphone as if the venue were a nightclub made it extremely difficult to rest or sleep. This is not what I expected after paying over $800, including parking. When I contacted the front desk around 11:45 PM to report the issue, the response was dismissive and lacked empathy. I was told the music would end at midnight, despite signage in the elevator clearly stating that music was scheduled to end at 10:00 PM. I was also told that the rooftop bar would be contacted and asked to turn the music down. Unfortunately, that did not happen. The volume never changed, and the noise level remained the same until the music finally ended. In addition to my own experience, I spoke with multiple other guests, both in the elevators and during breakfast, who expressed the same complaints regarding the rooftop bar noise. This confirms that the issue is widespread and not limited to a single guest or room. There is a review on this site that a previous guest who stayed in this exact room approximately one month ago describing the same problem. This demonstrates that this is a known, ongoing issue that has not been adequately addressed. While I understand that rooftop bars are an amenity, guest comfort must remain a priority. Loud, amplified music late into the evening directly above guest rooms is unacceptable, particularly when guests are paying premium rates with the reasonable expectation of being able to sleep. Given the cost of this stay and the significant impact this issue had on my ability to rest, especially during what was meant to be a special birthday stay, I trust that this matter will be reviewed appropriately and resolved in a way that reflects the level of service and experience your brand represents. I would appreciate a response outlining how this issue will be addressed and what steps will be taken to ensure it does not continue to impact guests, should I choose to stay at or recommend this hotel in the future
I highly recommend this Hotel. The location was perfect, also the amenities. My only complaint is the food at the Roof Top Bar. The food was overpriced for what it was. The breakfasts are awesome. What makes the experience better was the employee at the breakfast station. Her name was “Spring”. Shoutout to her. She was always making sure everything was okay. Nice asset for the Hotel.
The good – Complimentary breakfast. Nice, helpful staff. The not so good – Parking is a ripoff: $40 a day for self-parking. You can easily find parking for $2–$10 a day within a 10–15 minute walk of the hotel. The rooms are carpeted, and our room smelled like mildew. The bathroom exhaust fan did not work, which likely explains why the ceiling paint was peeling. This hotel is in desperate need of renovation. The pullout couch mattress was very thin and extremely springy. I ended up walking next door to the AC Hotel, which is new, and the difference was night and day. The AC was well worth the cost.
The hotel is in a great location. The front desk person was nice. Our room was nice and clean. The room did not have an iron. Per the front desk “it happens and they have to be requested”. Secondly, the “hot” breakfast is essentially the same breakfast that you can get at any motel. Lastly, the valet is a little slow so request your car early if you are in a hurry. At checkout there was only one person getting the cars.
A very nice stay. Pleasant and accommodating staff, from the beginning Valet and again ending with the Valet service. The concierge helped us navigate one of our most memorable cities of our 7000 mile Sprinter tour of the South and Southern Atlantic Coast. The nightlife is close nearby along the waterfront. Simple flat walk into that area. A good stay, in a good location and cared for by a good staff. CritDicks.
They’re very nice here. Manny and TJ were very helpful, but especially TJ! I had to switch my room and they made the process so effortless, and they didn’t even charge me extra. The breakfast was decent, you can’t beat free. I was disappointed by the parking. No where on the Hilton app did it say I had to pay for parking. Having to pay $40 per night for self parking and $50 for valet was very disappointing since that took away from my spending money. The rooms are not soundproof so you can see hear the television from the other room. But the location is really good. It’s off the beaten path but just a few minutes walk from the main area. There’s tons of places to eat, walk/run. If I visit Savannah again, I can’t see myself staying anywhere else.
